Photo Journal: San Diego Safari Park

Good morning! I can’t believe my last post was a week ago… I’ve become so immersed in this blogging habit that it feels so odd to be disconnected from my lovely readers for such a long time! It’s now officially summer, so I hope everyone’s lathering up on the SPF sun protection and enjoying summer activities all while avoiding potential heat strokes!

Last month, I promised to take my sister to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for her birthday, and that trip finally happened this past weekend! I visited the park a couple of years ago and was blown away by the large array of endangered animals and the expansive open-range enclosures built to resemble the natural habitats of animals from the African regions. Knowing that my sister is intensely into wildlife conservation and studies and, like me, was an avid player of the computer game Zoo Tycoon, I couldn’t wait to bring her here and was pleased to see that she loved the entire experience, even despite the sweltering 100F temperatures (we were so sweaty and flushed that we couldn’t bring ourselves to take any selfies!).

If you ever happen to find yourself in the area, please hop on this rewarding experience and visit the Safari Park! Here’s a money-saving tip: check LivingSocial.com and Groupon.com before buying your tickets because discount tickets are sold periodically on those two sites! It is undoubtedly unlike any other experience (there’s really nowhere else that will guarantee you a chance to watch a cheetah run at top speed) and puts a really fun and educational twist on the traditional “zoo” visit. The world is unbelievably huge so it’s no surprise that we lack knowledge about many of the endangered species, and visiting the Safari Park, especially with its huge emphasis on wildlife conservation, is such a great way to learn about these amazing creatures and gaining some new perspective on life. Now that I’ve been to the Safari Park twice, I’m aiming to level up and check “African Safari” (yes, the real deal) off my bucket list sometime in the future.

Below are some of the shots I caught during our visit (as you can probably tell, I love goats). I wish I had gotten good shots of all the animals at the Safari Park, especially the highly endangered ones, to share with you, but I guess you’ll just have to see them for yourself should you ever find the chance to visit!
