Photo Journal: El Matador Dreamland

After a long few months in New York City, there was nothing more satisfying than escaping the cold by flying back to Los Angeles for a few days. I’ve lived by the ocean my whole life and while I was away immersed in east coast city life, I constantly found myself craving the sounds of the waves, the touch of the warm sand and the view of endless horizon with the sun reflecting magically upon it. Naturally, one of the first things I did when I arrived back in LA was drive up Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu’s magnificent El Matador State Beach.

Boots hit ground, and after wandering down a dirt path down to sea level, I came face to face with imposing rock formations and shallow caves. Treading gingerly on glistening sand, leaping over tide pools and letting the salty air course through my hair, I felt right at home amidst the soothing roar of the waves. As much as I love living in a bustling metropolis, I’ve realized that sometimes the soul just needs to escape the city sounds to fully recharge, and this was exactly the prescription I needed.
