Laces and Tweed

People love matching their shoes to their bags, but I find that it’s sometimes just more fun to match my shoes with my top as it creates a nice colorblock effect from head to toe. But, all that fun goes away if said shoes become murderous feet-crushing instruments!

Years ago, I used to love towering stiletto heels and narrow toes, but I like to think I’m much more sensible now. Nowadays, I like to go for moderate heel heights and comfortable materials, and I’m currently loving these lace-up pumps from Asos (on sale!). I love a good strong pointed-toe pump, but much too often, I find that the toe box is on the smaller side, which ends up painfully crushing the toes together, especially after a long day of walking around. To counter the issue, I’ve discovered that pumps with ankle straps (like these from SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, Cole Haan, and L’Autre Chose) allow me to size up, thereby offering some breathing room and providing more comfort. Likewise, a heel style with a wider toe box will also do the trick, but if you are dead set on a pointy stiletto with a tiny toe box, you can look into shoe stretchers to make your heels more comfortable. It’s also good to note that you should alternate your heels throughout the week – if you wear the same shoes (or types of shoes) consistently, you increase your chances of causing ligament or tendon damage!
