Flouncy Layers

Again and again, I see, read, and hear sartorialists swear by layering – layering correctly automatically adds a level of complexity into one’s outfit, and it gives any run-of-the-mill look an extra boost of sophistication.

I love layering as much as the next girl, but sometimes, it’s just so much easier to fake it. This Bailey 44 top, for example, takes all the guesswork out of putting together a cohesive layering look. No need to deal with the conundrums of matching necklines, potentially overheating (especially in this current heat wave!), or accidental frumpiness. I loved pairing the flowy top with a tight little miniskirt, and it was immensely fun flouncing around the streets of downtown LA. Later on in the evening, I swapped out my casual Steve Maddens for a pair of sleek heeled suede booties for a more polished look (amazing how much influence a pair of shoes can have!).

Incidentally, here’s something interesting I learned that you may also find relatable! Apparently there’s a term called the “80/20 Wardrobe Plan” floating around in the fashion world. In a nutshell, it’s a shopping plan that helps you take better control of your closet by carefully allocating your shopping budget into two distinct categories: 80% of that budget goes towards key pieces that will enrich your current wardrobe (consider them as investments that will last you a long time). These should be quality pieces that you should spend time researching to find the perfect brand, material, price, and style that best suits you, and they should be specific pieces that either replace/upgrade tired current items in your closet or fill necessary wardrobe gaps. The remaining 20% of that budget is specially allocated for those spontaneous, trendy finds that you simply must have for the current season. If you consider yourself as somewhat of a shopaholic with a constant problem of never having enough room or hangers in your closet, try implementing this 80/20 plan into your shopping habits and see what happens!

As always, thank you so much for reading!
