When a usually busy street in downtown LA gets closed off from traffic, you simply can’t pass up prancing up and down the empty street and taking some photos!
It still doesn’t quite feel like fall during the daytime, but a chill does set in once nighttime hits. Because of this, it’s becoming increasingly essential to be prepared with layers. I actually used to hate layers – I always felt frumpy, big, and downright uncomfortable, but then I realized it was because I was layering all wrong!
Today, my perception of layering is completely different. In addition to adding some nuance to an otherwise run-of-the-mill outfit, layers also easily help you prepare for temperature changes. If you’re a little layer-shy, here are some tips to get you started:
When in doubt, layer in monochrome, like this sweater with this cocoon jacket.
Transform a dress into a tunic and layer it over skinny pants.
Layer a sweater over a button-up shirt. Old trick, but fail-proof.
Invest in long sleeveless vests (or a sweater vest).
Layer a sleeveless dress over a fitted t-shirt or classic button-up shirt.
As you can see, today’s look stems from the fourth tip: a fit-and-flare dress is layered underneath this cozy sweater vest (well technically, it’s called a tabard). I love that while it’s versatile and timeless, it also piques interest with its cable-knit texture and front hem split.
What do you think? Not to sound like a sartorial nerd, but layering can be so much fun with the wide range of possibilities! Is there a certain way you like to layer during the transitional seasons? I’d love to read your thoughts!
As always, thanks so much for reading. Happy Wednesday!
