BIKER CHIC

Wow, it’s feels like it’s been so long since the weather last permitted me to wear hosiery! If only this sort of mild temperature was present all year round. Imagine if every day was blissfully 70 – 74 degrees Fahrenheit… hello stockings and booties, two of my most favorite things in a wardrobe!

Before my love for stockings fully formed, I was obsessed with leggings, and in particular, I fawned over ponte knit (in love with this one!). Ponte (pronounced pon-tee) is a fabulous double-knit fabric that offers firmness with softness. It’s also thicker than regular leggings, so it has the structured look of skinny pants. Until recently, I didn’t give much thought to trying ponte in forms other than pants, but this vest from Express immediately caught my eye when I was browsing the site one day, and as it was during one of Express’s 40% off promo periods, it almost would have been a sin to pass up. The vest in black had already sold out, so I settled with dark navy, thinking that it would be a nice color addition to my mostly-black closet, and I was right! The ponte fabric adds great structure, allowing the chic biker style to shine through all the while maintaining comfort and flexibility, and the cropped length emits the illusion of long legs. Since I will forever be a fan of balancing edgy looks with girly touches, I paired the moto vest with a flared skater skirt and finished off with my new Michael Kors sunglasses, a beautiful birthday gift from H! I’ve always had a difficult time finding (affordable) sunglasses that fit well with my face shape, but surprisingly, this pair, with its subtle cat-eye frame, works quite well with me and with this outfit. I’m especially fond of the little gold accents that give the sunglasses an extra understated sparkle.
