This past Sunday, I went out for an outing to the OC Discovery Science Center (don’t go if you’re not a fan of kids; the place is crawling with them!) given that it was a free day, courtesy of the Bank of America Museums on Us program, so I decided to go for a casual yet fun outfit. The striped dress worked really well with the chambray shirt over it, and to cinch in the waist, I added a beige Express belt. Finishing off the entire look were my white wedge high-tops to help define my calves and give the outfit a little something extra.
A little note on the dress: you know how most of the time on store mannequins, the outfits have to be pinned a certain way so that it looks good on said mannequins? Well, I found myself having to do just that with this dress. I’m usually true to size at Forever 21, but this dress, already a size S, was still too baggy for me around the chest area. To fix the problem, I applied a bit of fashion tape to prevent the front from slipping down too much, and then I used a safety pin tighten the bust, hiding the excess material (and pin) underneath the chambray shirt.
However, there was one thing I couldn’t fix completely. The dress is on the light side (and I don’t mean color!), so at one point, there was a sudden giant gust of wind and I completely had a classic Marilyn-Monroe moment. All I could say was, thank goodness for booty shorts!
